Photos for a Children’s Book

Composite photo of a girl sitting in a tea cup by Peggie B. Hensley

This is not funny!

Writing has always been an outlet; cathartic, creative, or pragmatic, writing is a daily exercise. Lately I find myself writing more and more. With the opportunities available to EVERYONE these days, publishing is easier and faster. So I’m going to go out on a limb and go on the record today, right now. I’m writing a children’s book!

Part of the process is finding illustrations to go with the narrative. I have all these images in my head, but rather than draw them, I’m using my camera and drawing software to create them. This morning, after finishing two of them, it occurred to me that they would make a fun animated gif.

Click the image above to see the animation. Can you guess what the book is about? Do me a favor, please. Ask me in a few weeks how the book writing is progressing. Help me stay with this project through completion! Yeah, I’m one of those start a million things, but finish but a hundred or so people

Senior Sessions for Class of 2014 Booking Now

Chapmanville Regional High School Senior 2014 Photos

Last evening the unofficial Class of 2014 Senior Portrait Season began at our studio. Rachel Mullins did a very smart thing and signed up for our SpokesModel Program. I was extremely happy that she did. When my studio first opened, she was just a little girl. She came for a portrait session with her large extended family: aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins, a whole crew of great people. So it was a really wonderful time to reconnect. Plus, Rachel is an all around great young person – industrious and smart and kind and oh so many more great character traits.

We work hard to create portraits you’ll love

As always, the hardest part of Rachel’s session was during post-production. I had a really hard time narrowing down the images to just four. Here are my artist’s picks:

What Does This Have to do with Photography?

I really love working with code.

It’s a puzzle with infinite possibilities. I also love to have full control of my business and the tools that help me be productive. This website has been a work in progress from day one. Always on the back burner (AKA to-do list), last week I finally just decided to do some work on it. Forms were turned off while I found some errant, left over code. Server error messages on at least one occasion wiped EVERYTHING out! In hind sight, I probably should have waited until I had chosen the spokesmodels for Class of 2013 Senior Season. Two steps forward, forty steps back has been the process.

Sometimes you just have to break it before you know how to fix it.

Wonky display of my content is disconcerting for me, so I can only guess what you, the visitor might think while I experience growing pains of the digital kind. Please forgive the mess. I’m gradually sorting it all out as I work toward the end result.

Call or email if you need something right now and can’t find it or read it on this developing site:

Book a session before the busy season starts

Use this form to book a session. Summer is usually very full with limited photography sessions available. Fall gets even crazier. Right now is a great time to update your headshot for your website, professional or social (or both). And if you have a child graduating high school, now is the perfect time for an updated family portrait. Before he/she moves into a college dorm or apartment. Before the summer jobs and/or activities make scheduling difficult.

How long has it been since you had a professional portrait made?

One of my treasured possessions is a family portrait of my parents and my siblings. It was taken not long before my youngest sister, Kim, died suddenly during an asthma attack. Time has a way of getting away from us. And we have no guarantee of tomorrow.

What excuse are you using?

If you really want portraits, trust me to make you happy. Really. I have the tools and training to create photographs of you that you will genuinely love. I guarantee it. Call me to schedule a time to stop in the studio. We’ll have a cup of tea or coffee and discuss how we can work together to create images that you will be proud to show your friends and family.

Make a Visual Statement

When you think art, what comes to your mind? Van Gogh? Matisse? Rembrandt? Me too. But creating beautiful images that become art on my clients walls is one of my favorite things in the world!

These wall groupings are just a few ideas of how you can arrange your images on a wall. Now imagine your loved ones featured in a similar grouping in your home.

Did that make you smile?

What to Wear – What is YOUR Style?

This morning, I happened upon polyvore.com. It is a great place to get ideas and I found this already put together. This would definitely have been a favorite from my wardrobe eons ago! Not quite appropriate for my age now, but I’d love to photograph someone dressed like this… Not diggin’ the shoes so much, but love the overall look of it.
